Nineteen Thirty-Eight was born from family, tradition, and a belief that the things made by hand are often the things we treasure most. Our name honors our father, Henry A. Walker, II, who was born in 1938. His entrepreneurial spirit, strong work ethic, perseverance, and belief in treating people with respect taught us that building a business is about more than success—it is about creating a legacy that can be passed from one generation to the next.

Our love of craftsmanship began with our grandmother and mother, who taught us to sew and quilt as young girls. Some of our fondest memories are sitting beside our mother around the quilting horse, learning one careful stitch at a time while sharing laughter, stories, and family traditions. Through those moments, we learned patience, pride, creativity, and the value of doing something well. Quilting became more than a craft; it became a meaningful way to preserve heritage, celebrate family, and transform everyday materials into something lasting.

Today, Nineteen Thirty-Eight carries those lessons forward through handcrafted handbags, totes, quilts, and textile pieces that blend timeless craftsmanship with modern style. Every piece reflects care, attention to detail, and the character that only handmade work can bring. For us, Nineteen Thirty-Eight is more than a brand—it is a tribute to our father, grandmother, and mother and to the traditions they passed down. Every stitch connects our past to the present, and we are honored to share that legacy.
